Hasselbachplatz

back to overview

Hasselbachplatz is one of Magdeburg’s most important transit hubs. Here you can see the most beautiful late 19th century buildings that the city has to offer. The square is named after Carl Gustav Friedrich Hasselbach, who served as Lord Mayor of Magdeburg from 1853 to 1881. Citizens of the city had a nickname for him – literally “Lord Mayor of the Money Pump”. This was because he managed to rustle up huge sums of cash to buy this land off the military.
