St. John’s Church is the oldest parish church in Magdeburg. It is mentioned in official documents dating from as early as the year 941. The church was burned down no less than five times over the centuries that followed – built back up every time. You could say that this house of god has come to symbolise the indomitable spirit of the people of Magdeburg.
